Draw Wire Displacement Transducer

All dimensions are in millimetres unless otherwise stated. The LCD display shown is an optional extra.

The RDP Electronics DWT series transducer is a draw wire displacement transducer. Installation simply involves bolting down the housing and then attaching the draw wire to the part which is to be measured. The output of the draw wire displacement transducer is proportional to the amount of cable pulled out of the unit. The cable is a plastic coated steel wire and is tensioned by an internal spring pack giving the unit, amongst others, the ability to measure around corners. The output of the draw wire transducer can be in the form of a resistance (pot), Voltage, current or a display as shown in the diagrams. Two versions are available as detailed below.

DWT-10 Image

DWT-10 Draw Wire Transducer

The DWT-10 unit is designed for use in industrial applications. The electrical termination of the unit is either a connector or a cable gland. The housing is mounted by means of four mounting tabs.

DWT - 20 Image

DWT-20 Draw Wire Transducer

The DWT-20 is similar to the above but has a greater degree of environmental protection. It is possible with the correct orientation and installation to use this unit in wet applications. The unit is mounted by means of four mounting holes through the base (shown as the shorter length dimensions in the illustration).

The DWT transducer can be interfaced with some of the range of amplifiers available from RDP Electronics. Click 'Electronics' above for further information.

Standard Ranges Available 600mm 1000mm 1500mm 2000mm 2500mm
Special Ranges Available 100mm to 7500mm
Accuracy ±0.2% F.S. max
Resolution 0.1% F.S. typical
Cable Velocity 2m/s max
Cable tension 225gms (constant)
Outputs available 0 to 10V, 4-20mA and potentiometer. An optional LCD display is available if the voltage or current option is also specified.
Set-up The output will be nominally configured to give the full range output for the full travel. This product is not supplied with a calibration certificate. Zero and span pots enable final calibration with the transducer installed.
Supply voltage Output A = 4-20mA 2 wire: 12-48V dc regulated supply
Output C = Voltage output :-12 to 24V dc regulated supply,
Output D = 500R Pot output:- 25V max
Output R = LDC display (requires A or C to be fitted)
Display resolution 3.5 digits, set up to read 0.0 to 100.0 (representing 0 to 100% F.S.)
The actual reading in engineering units may be available to special order.
Electrical termination Choice of connector or cable gland
Operating Temperature Range -25°C to 85°C (0 to 50°C with LCD display)
