 DESCRIPTION:
 
 Traveling-wave tubes (TWTs) are the most common 
						high-power microwave electron devices. They serve as the 
						final ouput stage in nearly all communications 
						satellites. They are also common in pulsed radar systems 
						as well as in electronic-countermeasures (ECM) systems. 
						But the output characteristics of TWTs are rarely flat 
						across frequency. For that reason, a line of solid-state 
						driver amplifiers has been developed by CTT to include 
						gain-equalization circuitry. The equalizers work to 
						level the output characteristics of the TWT by feeding 
						the tube with the virtual inverse of its amplitude 
						response.
 
 The solid-state driver amplifiers integrate low-noise 
						amplifiers (LNAs) with equalization circuitry, having 
						frequency response tailored to a customer's need (or TWT). 
						CTT has already developed units for frequency ranges of 
						2 to 8 GHz, 6 to 18 GHz, 7 to 17 GHz, and 7 to 19 GHz, 
						and is in the process of developing models for bands of 
						18 to 26 GHz and 26 to 40 GHz.
 
 In units developed at CTT for use with 6 to 18 GHz TWTs, 
						typical response included 2 dB insertion gain at band 
						edges and 8 to 14 dB insertion gain (four different 
						otions) at band center.
 
 A customer only needs to supply a designated gain or 
						power window for teh tube for CTT's engineers to produce 
						the appropriate equalizer for a specific TWT. The result 
						is a compact and cost-effective method of leveling the 
						output of a TWT.
 
 CTT offers four options for amplitude response -6, 9, 
						12, and 15 dB nominal gain at band center. Available 
						output levels are +20 to +27 dBm. Equalizer insertion 
						loss is 2dB while VSWR is 2.0:1.
 
 The TWT driver amplifiers are designed for use with 
						microwave power modules (MPMs) and TWTs designed for 
						high-power communications as well as electronic-warfare 
						(EW) applications. The amplifier/equalizer modules are 
						constructed with reliable microwave-integrated-circuit 
						(MIC) technology capable of handling up to 5000-G shock. 
						They are rated for operating temperatures from -54 
						degrees C to +85 degrees C.
